Assessment and Survey research

Office of IR coordinates a range of ongoing and ad hoc surveys of SJSU students, alumni, faculty, and staff. Below are the current major survey efforts we manage.

  • SJSU Campus Climate

Periodic survey of the campus community covering overall experiences, interactions with different groups on campus, and any exposure to intolerance or discrimination.

  • National Survey of Student Engagement

Conducted once every three years, the NSSE is a major source of information on students' academic experiences and level of satisfaction at SJSU.

  • Beginning College Survey of Student Engagement

A standardized survey administered to incoming first-time freshmen asking about their high school experiences and expectations for their first-year at SJSU.

  • San Jose City Annual Report

The City of San José Annual Report on City Services. This report provides performance data on the cost, quantity, quality, timeliness, and public opinion of City services.

  • Fall 2020 Faculty Survey

The Fall 2020 Faculty Survey explored faculty experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, well-being and caregiving responsibilities, and the transition to online teaching and remote working.

On a limited basis, office of IR also assists with department or college-level survey efforts. For more information, contact

Office of IR uses Qualtrics for most online surveys on campus. For self-service surveys, current SJSU students, faculty, and staff are welcome to create their own surveys on the Qualtrics system by registering for a free account.
